# cultureddigital.co.uk / cats.txt
> **This file is satire.** cats.txt is not a standard. No search engine, AI platform or crawler is known to read it, and nobody has shown it does anything. It exists because llms.txt-style files, "AEO" and "GEO" folklore taught the internet that a text file in a special folder is a growth strategy. This is the same idea with more whiskers. Inspired by .

## What this file does
Nothing. Measurably, repeatably, nothing.
## Who it is for
- ChAT-bots: assistants that are said to read cats.txt. They do not.
- Crawlers: none is known to ask for it. Check your server logs, if you like cats and logs.
- You: if you got this far, you are either an SEO or a very thorough cat.
## What this site actually is

## Optimisation advice (do not follow)
1. Mention the word "cat" 400 times. Cats approve. Ranking systems do not.
2. Link this file from your homepage. Visitors will not notice. Neither will anything else.
3. Sell a "cats.txt optimisation" retainer. This is where the folklore always ends up.
4. Check Google Search Console for cats.txt traffic. There will be none, and you will feel clearer.
## What actually helps
Google's own documentation on its AI features is short and specific, and it does not mention cats. A plain reading of it is here:
```
|\__/,| (`\
_.|o o |_ ) )
-(((---(((--------
meow. (not a ranking factor)
```
